We use only the very best quality materials from around the world to insure long life and playability. All our restoration work comes with a 5 year written guarantee.

 IS YOUR PIANO WORTH RESTORING?

In our opinion the best pianos were made from 1880 to 1940. Most grand pianos are worth restoring. Upright pianos however depend on the type of stringing and action used. The best type of upright piano is an Overstrung (bass strings cross over the top of the steel strings), and fitted with an Underdamper Action (the Dampers are set below the Hammer Heads). It's also important you like your piano.

Call us on 0118 9500670 or email harmon[email protected] and tell us the make of your piano and if possible the serial number which can be found on the gold frame or the soundboard. Also a photo of the inside and one of the outside of the piano is very helpful. We can then tell you if your piano if worth restoring and tell you an approximate cost to restore it and arrange an estimate if required.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IF YOU REQUIRE US TO RESTORE YOU PIANO?

Your piano will be collected by a Specialist Piano Mover and delivered to our workshop. Then the case will be dismantled, and the Action, Keys and Pedal work removed. Then we make a Rubbing of the Bass Strings to be used as a pattern to make to order a new set of Bass Strings. Then we remove all the Strings, wrestpins and Iron Frame.

We then inspected the Soundboard, Bridges and Wrestplank and carry out any necessary repairs, and if required fit a new multi-laminated Wrestplank. We then repolish the Soundboard.

Then we remove all the listing felts from the Iron Frame, clean or respray the Iron Frame as required, fit new listing felts to the Frame of the same colour as the original felts and refit the frame into the case. Fit new Steel Strings, Bass Strings and Wrestpins.

The Action and Keys are then dismantled. All felts, leathers and springs are removed as necessary, all the Action and Keys are then cleaned,  the Hammer Heads are refaced or new ABEL Hammer Heads are fitted, the Damper Heads are recovered, new felts and leathers are  fitted to the rest of the Action and Keys, the Action is recentred and any new springs fitted, the Action and Keys are  reassembled and refitted into the case, and fine regulated.

If you require any case repairs or the piano repolished it is carry out at the same time as the about work. The case is then reassembled, the Pedal work refitted and the piano tuned and voiced.

The piano is delivered back to you along with a 5 year written guarantee.
